Having hip pain is not only common nowadays but also one reason that can make your limb painful. Similarly, it is easy to disregard these hip pain symptoms and associate them with simple muscular pulls or muscular pain.

You may have heard people attribute soreness in their hip to ageing. However, this discomfort can affect everyone regardless of age.

Discomforts in your hips may stem from a number of factors from a simple sports accident to age related hip problems. Or still, you may suffer from hip pain yourself and still not know it.

I understand what hip pain symptoms are because I witnessed my own grand mum go through it.

She was well until she began complaining whenever she could stretch her legs while sitting down or standing up.

At first we assumed this was normal with ageing but when she started complaining about excruciating pain in her lower back and hip joint, I knew hip pain was taking toll on her.

I immediately organized with a physical therapist and a combination of rest and physical therapy helped to relieve the pain a bit.

However, when her pain persisted for two weeks and made it hard for her to walk, I had to admit her to UHHS Bedford Medical Center in Bedford, Ohio.

After one week of treatment from professional medics, she was back to normal health.

Common Symptoms of Hip Pain

1. Pain within the Crotch or Groin

If you have hip pains, you will feel pain within the inner thigh. Since this is your hip joint’s overall spot, discomforts around your groin may indicate troubles within your hip.

This type of pain can seem like some pounding or tightening up in the region.

As the pain increases, you may find it hard to do some tasks or even walk fast because of muscles that link your hip joint to your legs.

So, whenever you feel pain around the crotch or groin, you should check to confirm whether the problem stems from your hip joint instead of groin.

2. Low back pain

Your backbone ends at the last section of your pelvic bone. The sciatic nerve extends through your spine to the hips and at the back of the legs. An irritation or squeezing of this nerve contributes to pain in your lower back.

It is among the common hip pain symptoms you can ever experience.

This type of pain occurs as a constant pounding ache. It is paramount that you seek treatment if the pain persists because a delay in treatment may restrict mobility.

3. Discomfort and Leg Pains

Your legs link to your hips from the ball and socket joint. The connection allows you feel any discomfort in your legs, especially if your hips are troubled.

Whenever there is trouble in your hips, you may start feeling as though your legs are prickling or tired. Complications in your hips can cause you to start limping. So, hip pain can manifest through your legs as well.

4. Soreness and Referral Pain

Referral pain occurs when a sensation from one part of your body emanates from the condition of another section of the body. This is very normal with hip pain.

For example, when you have problems or pain in your groin, you could feel it through your knee. Similarly, pain within your upper hip can manifest itself through your lower back.

5. The Right Hip pain

Right hip pain refers to the pain that occurs around the groin region. This discomfort usually results from a sports injury or similar causes. Primarily, hernia or muscular stretch causes the sensation.

The symptoms of right hip pain involve sharp pain around your crotch as you lift heavy items. It also involves severe soreness that prevents you from running or jumping. The other indications are muscle spasms, bruises, inflammation and muscle pain.

6. The outer hip pain

Pain in the outer hip is also a primary symptom. This condition usually manifests as joint pain and through tightness in the joints.

When you experience this pain, you may find it difficult to even lie down on your side just because of the excruciating pain. Moreover, you will find it troublesome to just turn over.

In addition to this, you will realize that any type of physical effort such as climbing the stairways or walking only makes the pain severe.

While the pain is usually flat, it tends to become extreme anytime you try to exert effort. One of the major causes of pain in your upper hip is an ache resulting from sitting on hard places for a very long time.

7. Hip Arthritis Symptoms

Initially, arthritis may show subtle symptoms. The main symptom is hip pain that is not only restricted to your hips, but will also radiate down your thighs.

If you have hip arthritis, you will often manifest varying levels of pain. For example, certain weather conditions may curtail or trigger the onset of symptoms.

For instance, cold weather will generally intensify the pain within your hip joint. The pain will progress over the years as the condition continues and if you do not seek treatment for the same.

Your hip joints may become stiff over time. The cartilage covering the head of your thigh bone slowly wears out and causes bones to start rubbing against each other.

This results in inflammation and stiffness. As the disease progresses, you will find it hard to move your hips or bend down. Besides, prolonged sitting will be problematic.

You may start walking with a limp and you will often feel one leg seems shorter compared to the other. In addition, it is common to feel a cracking noise within your hip joint as you walk.

Soon, it becomes hard to walk but the flaring pain will reduce whenever you take a rest.

Treatment of Hip Pain Symptoms

To treat hip pain, you should try weight loss if you are obese because weight loss will reduce the stress on your joints and make it easier to perform regular activities.

You can consult a physical therapist because this helps too. Lastly, you can use anti-inflammatory drugs.

When you experience the mentioned hip pain symptoms for weeks or even days even with no significant trauma at your hip, see your doctor for appropriate medical help.
